Kuranda
Kuranda is well known as “The Village in the Rainforest”. It has been attracting visitors for decades. Initially, people came to admire the mighty Barron Falls.
Then artisans were attracted to the region’s natural beauty, deciding to call it home. They created a vibrant arts and craft culture.
Today people flock to this tiny village to enjoy the stunning natural beauty as well as the relaxed atmosphere of the local markets. You will find loads of unique souvenirs and gift items.
‘The Village in the Rainforest’ is open 7 days a week. We invite you to spend some time enjoying the many things to see and do in this little rainforest village. For local wildlife, check out Bird World, Butterfly Sanctuary or Koala Gardens.
If you’re looking for a completely unique experience stop by Rainforestation. Here, you have the chance to see all the native wildlife along with indigenous cultural experiences.
Atherton Tablelands
People ask, ‘what is the best thing about the region?’ Well, there’s more than one!
Firstly, the gourmet food and wine trails that criss-cross our ‘food bowl of the tropics’.
Secondly, our wildlife with a particular emphasis on bird watching and unique marsupials like the tree kangaroo.
Thirdly, the Waterfall Circuit with its stunning rainforest backdrops.
Some of the best wterfalls to keep an eye out for are Millaa Millaa Falls, Ellinjaa Falls and Nandroya Falls.

Port Douglas & Mossman Gorge
Surrounded by nature’s riches of two iconic World Heritage areas, the majestic Great Barrier Reef, and the ancient Daintree Rainforest.
Port Douglas is approximately 70km north of Cairns, Tropical North Queensland.
Founded in 1877, Port Douglas became a port where riches from the goldfields of the Hodgkinson and Palmer Rivers were trafficked by bullock drays to be loaded onto vessels for southern cities.
Today Port Douglas welcomes visitors from all over the world to experience the riches of this international holiday mecca which until as recently as the 1960s was a sleepy fishing village.
Located in the southern part of the World Heritage Listed, Daintree National Park, Mossman Gorge is one of the few places in the country that visitors can gain an insight into the lives, culture and beliefs of Australia’s Indigenous population and their connection to the natural environment.
Join a guided Dreamtime Walk tour to get a deeper insight into the ancient flora and fauna of the rainforest. You will also learn about traditional plant uses and Kuku Yalanii culture.
Bushwalks & Swimming Holes
While the high season for tourists in North Queensland is actually the winter months between June-August, visiting in the summer has its advantages. If you do visit during the summer, we highly recommend doing what the locals do!
